I really loved this post. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around what “building in public” actually means for me, and how to make it valuable without just adding more digital clutter. This gave me the substance I needed. It feels so much deeper than just “get over the cringe.” As someone who hasn’t posted on Instagram since 2023, it still terrifies me that I’m starting to build in public. But this made me feel more motivated to keep going. Thank you!
Thanks for the shout out Kira! yes - selling yourself shouldn't be icky, but Linkedin in particular is such a weird combination of ick and emo vibes that it feels hard to build in public. I've been building semi-publicly by posting on Substack and linkedin and then if folks authentically respond to things, I'm inviting them to a private slack community i'm building out. I want to nurture and sustain the precious few places online where I can be myself, gather other like minded fools around me, and help one another!
You've always inspired me here! Part of it for me has been accepting that niche can be powerful—you don't need to reach or resonate with *everyone* and have a platform of hundreds of thousands to establish your voice or to be of value to others. In my own life, I get the most value out of those small, curated Slack communities and IRL connections ❤️
It’s the new “the loudest voice wins”. It’s exacerbating an already broken game. So knowing the rules and applying them holistically is exactly how to level the playing field. Brilliant piece!

I absolutely loved this piece
Seth Godin talks about this a lot, being generous with your gifts
He's onto something! It's also related to a growth mindset—what am I learning through this experience? Being generous pays off personally, too :)
Another great read, always appreciate these insights. Thank you!

"The gap often isn’t skill. It’s visibility." when it perfectly aligns with that aged old saying of squeaky wheels get the grease.
